The story
St. Bernardus in Watou brewed the Trappist beers for the monks of Westvleteren under licence from 1946 to 1992. The brewmaster brought the recipes and the yeast strain with him, and when the licence expired the brewery kept both and carried on under its own name.
Abt 12 is the flagship, and one of Belgium's most celebrated quadrupels: dark and full-bodied, with dried fruit, candi sugar and a warm finish.
