Taste profile
Legend has it
Bosteels says Tripel Karmeliet is brewed to a recipe from the Carmelite monastery in Dendermonde, dated 1679. As the story goes, Antoine Bosteels came across it by chance in a book about the region's breweries. Anyone who tracks down the manuscript in the Carmelite archive in Ghent finds an instruction to brew sixteen barrels of good beer, written some time between 1679 and 1689. The beer itself arrived in 1996, more than three hundred years later.
Beer stories travel from brewery to bar to guest, and rarely shrink on the way.
