Brugse Zot Blond
Brouwerij De Halve Maan, Brugge
The golden blond of Bruges, fresh and gently bitter with citrus.
Legend has it
Bruges has a legend about how its people got their nickname. When Maximilian of Austria came in 1488 to put down a rebellion, the citizens took him prisoner, and he later banned the city's festivals and fairs. To win him over they threw a party and asked for their fairs back and for leave to build a new madhouse. Maximilian replied: 'Close all the gates of Bruges and you have your madhouse!' Ever since, the people of Bruges have been called Brugse Zotten, the fools of Bruges.
Beer stories travel from brewery to bar to guest, and rarely shrink on the way.
