Lindemans Oude Geuze Cuvée René
Brouwerij Lindemans, Vlezenbeek
Lindemans' traditional oude gueuze, named after brewer René Lindemans.
Legend has it
Lindemans brews in the Senne valley, and the Senne runs through Brussels, whose most venerated patron saint is Gudula. As the story goes, she walked to church at Moorsel in the dark before cockcrow, lighting the way with a lantern. The Devil, eager to lead her astray, blew it out. Gudula prayed, and the flame lit again. She has been shown with her lantern ever since: on a seal from 1446 a demon is trying to put it out. Even a little fungus that fruits in January is called Sinte Goedele's lampken, Gudula's lantern.
Beer stories travel from brewery to bar to guest, and rarely shrink on the way.
