Boon Kriek
Brouwerij Boon, Lembeek
Kriek of young and old lambic, with at least 250 grams of fresh cherries per litre.
Legend has it
Lembeek is part of Halle, and Halle has a legend about its Black Madonna. On 24 June 1489 Philip of Cleves, leader of the Flemish Revolt, laid siege to the town and bombarded it. As the story goes, Our Lady of Halle caught the cannonballs in her cloak, and it is the gunpowder from those cannonballs that turned her black. The cannonballs are still on show in the Basilica of St Martin, for anyone who doubts it.
Beer stories travel from brewery to bar to guest, and rarely shrink on the way.
