The story
Westmalle Extra was long the monks' own table beer, the light one they drank with meals inside the walls, with roots going back to 1836. Only in 2021 was it released to the public, and it is still brewed just a couple of times a year.
Pale gold, hop-aromatic and drier than you expect, at a modest 4.8%. Trappist quality in an everyday format, a rarity we are glad to pour on a guest tap when we can get hold of it.
Especially good with
Cheese croquette, mussels in white wine.
