Oud Beersel Oude Geuze
Brouwerij Oud Beersel, Beersel
Lambic from several vintages, blended in Beersel since 1882.
Legend has it
Early in 2003 Henri Vandervelden made a last appeal for someone to take over the family brewery, which had closed at the end of 2002. Gert Christiaens, then about 25, heard the news while drinking Oud Beersel at Le Bar in Brussels. Rather than mourn the beer, he decided to save it himself. He trained in malting, brewing and fermentation, and spent about three years learning to blend from Henri. In November 2005 the brewery opened again, with his friend Roland De Bus at his side until 2007.
Beer stories travel from brewery to bar to guest, and rarely shrink on the way.
