The story
Orval is brewed inside the abbey of Notre-Dame d'Orval in the Belgian Ardennes. The present brewery came into use in 1931 to fund the monastery's reconstruction, and the first beer left in May 1932.
Orval breaks nearly every Trappist convention: the brewery makes just one beer for the public, dry-hops it during a three-week maturation, and referments it with Brettanomyces. That is why Orval keeps changing in the bottle, growing drier, more austere and more alive as it ages. Ask us about the vintage, it genuinely matters.
